MS Word Shortcuts

If you want to work faster with MS word, then you need to know all the useful shortcuts. MS Word have various shortcut keys based on the keyboard and the mouse.

Mouse Shortcuts

Shortcut Description
Double click on a word Selects the word
Triple click on a paragraph Selects a Paragraph
Double click on any blank space Moves the cursor to the location
Single Click on the blank space at the begining of a line Selects the complete line

Keyboard Shortcuts

Shortcut Description
Ctrl+A Select all contents of the document.
Ctrl+B Bold selected text.
Ctrl+C Copy selected text.
Ctrl+D Opens the font preferences window.
Ctrl+E Aligns the selected text to the center of the screen.
Ctrl+F Opens find window.
Ctrl+G Goto
Ctrl+H Replace
Ctrl+I Italic selected text.
Ctrl+J Aligns the selected text to justify the screen.
Ctrl+K Insert a hyperlink.
Ctrl+L Aligns the selected text to the left of the screen.
Ctrl+M Indent a paragraph.
Ctrl+N Opens a new blank document.
Ctrl+O Opens the dialog box to open an existing file.
Ctrl+P Opens the print window. (also Ctrl+Shift+F12)
Ctrl+R Aligns the selected text to the right of the screen.
Ctrl+S Save the current document.
Ctrl+T Shift the hanging indent.
Ctrl+U Underline the selected text.
Ctrl+V Paste.
Ctrl+W Close the currently active document.
Ctrl+X Cut selected text.
Ctrl+Y Redo the last action.
Ctrl+Z Undo the last action.

Alt+X Show the Unicode code of a highlighted character.
Alt+Shift+D Create a numbering markup for reference
Ctrl+Shift+A Capitalize the selected text.
Ctrl+Shift+D Double underline the selected text.
Ctrl+Shift+F Opens Font window.
Ctrl+Shift+L Create a bullet point.
Ctrl+Shift+> Increase font size of selected text to by 1pts up to 12pt and then increase font size by 2pts.
Ctrl+] Increase selected font size by 1pts.
Ctrl+Shift+< Decrease font size of selected text to by 1pts if it is below 12pt else decrease font size by 2pts.
Ctrl+Left arrow Moves the cursor one word to the left.
Ctrl+Right arrow Moves the cursor one word to the right.
Ctrl+Up arrow Moves the cursor to the beginning of the line or paragraph.
Ctrl+Down arrow Moves the cursor to the end of the paragraph.
Ctrl+Del Deletes word to right of cursor.
Ctrl+Backspace Deletes word to left of cursor.
Ctrl+End Moves the cursor to the end of the document.
Ctrl+Home Moves the cursor to the beginning of the document.
Ctrl+Spacebar Reset highlighted text to the default font style.
Ctrl+1 Change line spacing to Single-space lines.
Ctrl+2 Change line spacing to Double-space lines.
Ctrl+5 Change line spacing to 1.5-line.
Ctrl+= Set selected text as subscript.
Ctrl+Shift+= Set selected text as superscript.
Ctrl+Alt+T Insert trademark (TM) symbol.
Ctrl+Alt+1 Changes text to heading 1.
Ctrl+Alt+2 Changes text to heading 2.
Ctrl+Alt+3 Changes text to heading 3.
Ctrl+Alt+F2 Open new document.
Ctrl+F1 Open the Task Pane.
Ctrl+F2 Display the print preview.
Ctrl+Shift+> Increases the font size of selected text by 1pt.
Ctrl+Shift+< Decreases the font size of selected text by 1pt.
Ctrl+Shift+F6 Switches between open Microsoft Word documents.
F1 Open help.
F5 Open the Find, Replace, and Go To window in Microsoft Word.
F7 Spellcheck and grammar check for selected text or document.
F12 Opens Save As window.
Shift+F3 Toggle case between uppercase / lowercase / capitalize first letter
Shift+Enter Create a soft break instead of a new paragraph.
Shift+Alt+D Insert the current date.
Shift+Alt+T Insert the current time.
